Django Reinhardt and Stefan Grappelli started a famous band for the members of a French club interested in hot jazz: Le Quintette du Hot Club de Paris. The music was early acoustic swing, before the big bands. We honor Django and Stefan by declaring ourselves the Not So Hot Klub de Denton.
We play swing, hot jazz, sweet jazz, gypsy, jazz songs, and silly songs. Guitars, of course, but not too many. Clarinet, drums, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, concertina, and bass. You remember the music on the boat in the movie Chocolat? Johnny Depp played the same style.
We are available for weddings, diners, buffets, birthdays, Bastille Day, receptions, and any occasion swing or jazzy music will make special.
There are several of us; we include Andrew Cooper, Thad Bonduris, George Merritt, Mike Minardi, Tom Nelson, and Leon Ashley Peek.
Guest artists have included Mr Joe Pinson, Nathan Phelps, Carl Finch, Jeffrey Barnes, Joe Johnson, Karen Foster, Cindy Maloney, Bach Norwood, and more. |
